August 14-18
Freddy & I

Ports:  Annapolis, Chesapeake City, Atlantic City, New York

Due to delays in getting the A/C fixed (bad relay) I stayed in Annapolis, missing a party we were hosting in Kansas City in honor of our new granddaughter Mary Mac.  While the Marine Air dealer told me how to wire around the problem once it was determined that it was the relay and not the pump, they could not install the replacement until Saturday morning, the day of the party.

The next day on Sunday my stepson Freddy joined me in Annapolis and we departed for New York the next morning, with working air conditioning!

The first night we stopped at Chesapeake City at the top of Chesapeake Bay and at the entrance to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal connecting the two bays.  We stayed at _ Marina on the east side of the canal, which was well protected and out of the current.  We had dinner at Bayard House, a nearby bed and breakfast; the food and the view were both excellent.

Aug 15 - Embarked early passing a big container ship on the canal just outside the marina.  We ran at 9-10 knots all day arriving at Cape May in the late afternoon, staying at South Jersey Marina.  The marina is tucked back in a cove next to the commercial fishing fleet and within walking distance of the Lobster House Restaurant where we ate that night.  Lobster House is a huge facility seating 500 people with a wait staff of 60.  Food was good.  Taxi ride for provisions.  Substantial current at the marina.

Aug 16 - On to Atlantic City up the Jersey Coast.  Stayed at Trump Marina, which is preferred to the Marriott where we stayed last trip, protected harbor out of the current.  Taxied to the Boardwalk for a stroll, which was fun.  Freddy had not been here before and it's a great place to people watch.  Dinner at Trump Casino.

Aug 17 - The run to New York was against a 3-4 foot chop which was enough to cover the boat with salt, requiring a major wash down on arrival.  Seas at the harbor entrance had built to 5-7 feet off the beam so the stabilizers got a workout.  We did the obligatory harbor tour including a slow pass of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and a run up the East River to the Brooklyn Bridge prior to docking at Liberty Landing Marina.  There are a number of new harbor restrictions since 911 regarding approach distances to shoreside facilities, monuments, piers, etc., per NTMs.

This was the first time I had stayed at Liberty Landing, having done previous trips to Newport Marina.  Liberty is preferred.  Like Newport is has an excellent restaurant, but it also is well protected and there is no roll, a significant advantage.  Dinner at Liberty House Restaurant that night was excellent with great views of Manhattan.

Aug 18 - Departed for Home from Newark Airport, which is only 20 minutes from marina.
