Mike & Jean Rose, Nora

Ports: Washington DC, Point Lookout, Annapolis

Aug 4 - Upon our arrival back in DC to continue our journey with Mike and Jean Rose, we were dismayed to be welcomed by 104 degree temperatures.......when we opened the door to the salon.  The air conditioner had shut down and, as it turned out, could not be restarted as the salt water circulation pump would not engage.  After an hour of fruitless effort we checked into a nearby hotel and I began calling service companies.

Washington itself does not have many service facilities, so most are located in either Baltimore or Annapolis.  Unfortunately I was unable to arrange for service as the temperatures were in the mid 90's and they were all backed up.

We did visit the Spy Museum and the Smithsonian, while endeavoring to get the A/C repaired.

Aug 6 - After 2 nights in the hotel and the passage of a thunderstorm, we decided to make a fast run to Annapolis instead of the 4 day leisurely trip originally planned.  We spent the night at Pt. Lookout Marina http://www.pointlookoutmarina.com/ at the mouth of the Potomac, a run of 90 NM. Slept ashore at the nearby fish camp motel.  Had a good dinner at Spinnaker's  Restaurant at the marina.

Aug 7 - We arrived in Annapolis on Sunday night and pulled into a slip at Annapolis Yacht Basin http://www.yachtbasin.com/ between several 100+ footers and immediately checked into the nearby Marriott.  Annapolis is a favorite cruising destination and was amply populated with boats, boaters and tourists.  There are many good places to eat, and of course the Naval Academy.  We did not visit the Academy this trip as we had toured it previously.

Aug 9 - Prior to leaving on the trip we called Mike and Jean's daughter Katie (our god daughter) who lives in Baltimore and arranged for her to visit us on the boat while we were in Annapolis.  We didn't tell her that mom and dad were going to be with us so it turned out to be a surprise enjoyed by all.  Katie spent the afternoon and dinner with us.

Aug 10 - Mike, Jean and Nora departed for Kansas City, yours truly stayed to coordinate the A/C repair.
